Oh man. Someone fucked up, either my new landlord, the Housing Opportunities Commission, my old landlord, or me. I don\’t know who, but it\’s in my favor.
Told the old landlord I was vacating April 30.
Told the new landlord the move-in date would be April 29 (which it was).
Told the Housing Opportunities Commission my move-in date was April 30 (it was supposed to May 1 for HOC to approve it).
HOC actually recognized it and approved it as April 30.
I had to pro-rate April 29 and 30 and $36.60 per day. Didn\’t expect to see that again. HOC told me that my monthly portion of the $1,100 rent would be $177. So on April 3 I paid $177 for April. But I got a letter in the mail today that changes that.
HOC says that my lease for here begins April 30, and they approve of that. They also changed my portion of the rent to $51 per month. And since they pay direct to the landlord, and will be paying for April 30 now, too, I\’ve now overpaid the landlord. I\’ve now overpaid the landlord a lot. And the landlord doesn\’t do refunds. Which means I now don\’t have to pay rent for… four and a half months. Until mid-August.
Which brings me to a lessor point, which is that I got a two bedroom again, so if anyone wants to do a housing swap for a cheap vacation (I need to get out of town), or wants to come visit me, or needs a place to stay for a few weeks, I\’ve got the space and have a bus stop in front of my house that gets to the Takoma metro stop in ten minutes.
Hooray for no rent.
