This is supposed to be an exercise, not a dumping ground, but I don\’t have time at the moment to follow the train of thought. In brief, this is the bravest piece I have read in a long time. Finally, a leftist takes on the very necessary task of critcising the man that would be god, Michael Moore.
I\’m a liberal — a very liberal, registered Green and voting for Kucinich liberal — who was raised to question everything and listen to all sides. Finding fault only in what we do not believe in and blindly lauding the speakers and productions of what we do believe in is more than political folly: it is consciously choosing our own deaths. I don\’t like Bush any more than the next blue-voting resident here in DC, but I\’ll be goddamned if I jump on the bandwagon of anyone and everyone who dares to speak against him. Moore may have managed to hit more buttons than most, but at the end of the day he is still a self-important, self-righteous, small talent comic who continues to make a bunch of half-witted films that no self-respecting \”artist,\” \”philosopher,\” or \”liberal\” should dare to rally behind without first questioning the answers and checking the sources on their own. Otherwise, instead of buying the red\’s deaf rhetoric, you have become a consumer of the blue\’s blind pomposity.
The only thing that makes me feel more ill than a Conservative who thinks s/he is right, is a Liberal who knows s/he is right.
