The Nudge.

Brought to you by the same people who have given us ads, left ways for spiders to index our accounts in search engines, and the sponsored communities feature. Yes, thanks to Six Apart, LJ users can now harass their other LJ friends for not updating their LJs by simply clicking the \’Nudge\’ button on the MIA\’s userinfo page. (Excuse me if this has been around for awhile, but I only just noticed.)

More and more, I feel like there\’s a guy with a tiny black mustache looking over my shoulder, and no, I\’m not having a polycystic ovarian disease (hirsutism jokes are funny when the hair happens to you, really) induced out-of-body experience. Behind every screen, someone\’s watching me (cue the Rockwell), just waiting for me to go one hundred sixty-eight hours without an entry so they can Nudge me. This is oppression by social pressure, goddammit.

\”Hey kids, haven\’t seen your friends get their LJ fix in a week? Remind them to come back… so they can see more of our ads! We know you miss them, and they can\’t resist the interactions \’brought to you by…\’\” It\’s great to know my thoughts and conversations are sponsored by whomever AdBlock and NoScript are kind enough to mostly not expose me to.
