Neurologists in Switzerland have discovered that stimulation of the left or right angular gyrus in the brain triggers out-of-body experiences. 1
Theory: when traumatized, the tsunami of chemicals stirred up in the brain overwhelms the left or right (perhaps both?) angular gyrus, thus resulting in the out-of-body experience so commonly reported among people with PTSD. Reverting to the out-of-body state when retriggered, e.g. having a severe anxiety attack due to PTSD elements, may then be the brain\’s learned responsive behavior in that situation.
