Real love cannot exist between human beings. Real love is the sort of thing that exists eternally, implicitly, with no mood swings, bargaining, conditions, apologies, or rules. There is never any question that the love may end due to some unforeseen and negative circumstance. Real love is pure joy, though all encompassing sorrow may accompany it. It does not falter in times of stress, nor in times of absence. It transcends time zones, health crises, even death. The thought of \”Will you still love me tomorrow\” is incomprehensible and never crosses the mind, because real love is forever. Real love is being welcomed at the door, a warm body next to you at night, a playful chase around the park, a silent and conspiring walk around the neighborhood at dusk, an eagerly shared meal of fried eggs at six in the morning when you are both supposed to be on a vegan diet, a cold nose pressed playfully against your face, and comforting tongue licking up your nostrils to comfort you at any time. Real love happens with a dog.
