Why? Because I currently live and host this site out of a country called the USA, which really
stands for the United States of Assholes. I can say this, because I understand my First Amendment
Rights provided to me by the Constitution. Some people forget that such a document exits. I hate
to break it to you guys down in Congress, but it does. ha ha ha.
Unfortunately, Congress likes to pretend the First Amendment doesn\’t exist. They passed a little
thing called the Communications Decency Act, and it\’s making life on the internet hell. America
likes to think they own the internet. I hate to be the one to break it to them, but they don\’t.
Listen up, Bill. In the almighty words of Damon Albarn \”the world does exist outside of America\”.
As of July 1999, there were 272 million people in the USA, and 6 billion people in the world as of
August 1999. That\’s only 6% of the total world population. Do you hear that America? You are
only six percent of the entire world\’s population. Stop acting like you are the world,
own the world, and control the world, and start acting like the measly six percent you are.
As of August 1999, 195.19 million people were on the internet. That\’s only 4.64% of the whole
world. So why the hell is the government of this measly 6% of the world trying to
make laws for the other 94% of the world? I wish I could say it beats the shit out of me, but it
doesn\’t. The truth is, there are people in America – mostly right-wing, white, Christian men
and women – who think that the government should rid the internet of all this \”filth\” (objectionable
words, phrases, literature and propaganda, nudity and porn, etc.), just because \”America
started the internet\” (which, they alone did not), and because Americans are the only ones online.
Bullshit. American\’s aren\’t the only ones online. People in America may think they are, but
they aren\’t. In fact, right now through the wonders of ICQ,
I am speaking to people in Turkey, India, Jordan, Quebec, Canada and Russia. I also
have people on my contact list from Scotland, Ireland, Egypt, Germany, France, Greece,
England, the Netherlands, and yes, the USA.
The truth is, only 106.3 million people in the USA are on the internet. That\’s
39.37% of the US population, and only 54% of the total world population on the
internet. That may be just over half, but that doesn\’t mean we have the right to
tell the other half what they can and can not have online, what they can and can
not view.
21.5% of the rest of the internet world live in Europe alone, with 18.5% in Asia and
Australia, 4.5% in South America, 1% in Africa, and .5% in the Middle East. So who
are we to make the laws for the 50 people in Cape Verdi, Africa who are online?
Who are we to tell the 18 million people in Japan who are online what they can
and can not view? We\’re the shit on a donkey\’s (ahem, Republicans, anyway?) arse,
that\’s who we are.
If people have a problem with what is available on the internet, then I have
solution for them. Try disconnecting your modems and doing something else.
Practice those family values you are always preaching. Read a book. Communicate
with people face to face. Practice the soon to be long-lost art of handwritten
letter writing. Ohmigosh! There are other things besides the internet for you to do!
If you must be on the internet (which is something you don\’t want to do too
long because you\’ll become pale and flabby and get carpal tunnel syndrome like the rest
of us net.geeks), then why not do a search on something other then things you find
objectionable? There are plenty of non-objectionable things out there after all,
though this site is not one of them.
If you\’re concerned with unsolicited mail that advertises pornography, or your children
being able to access unappropriate materials, then please invest in mail and browser
filters like Net Nanny or
Cyber Sitter. Netscape and
Microsoft offer free downloads for their browsers and e-mail clients.
Yahoo, ICQ, and AOL
offer filter services on their software and searches, and there are also many more
free filters available. Try doing a search on Alta Vista
or CNet for one.
Do not attempt to control the masses; only attempt to control yourself and perhaps
your underaged children. The Communications Decency Act must be abolished,
and when it is you will need to be ready.
Until then, web hosts, web masters, servers, USENET users and others will live in
fear of being sentenced to up to six months in prison just for practicing our First
Amendment Rights. To which I say… fuck you America, and your facist laws too. I\’ll
say what I please.
But since going to prison would seriously put a damper on my life, I shall follow
their silly little law which says I must say that my site may contain objectionable
words, pictures and ideas.
So here it goes: this domain and all pages found within may contain objectionable
words (like freedom, sex, and revolution), phrases
(like female orgasm, self-pleasuring, and take the power back),
ideas (like real power to the real people, bdsm, and marijuana
and other drug legalisation), and pictures.
I feel like such a sell out.
