The good news is, I know exactly where I would like to study and work for the next ten years and maybe more. The James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization is just about the most awesome thing I have come across in a long, long time. From 5 May – 7 June of this year, they are hosting a series of seminars on the theme of \”Tomorrow\’s Technology and Society.\” The seminars are: \”The biometric future and the politics of identity;\” \”The convergence of nanotechnology and biotechnology;\” \”Ageing Societies: myths, challenges, and opportunities;\” \”Current and emerging challenges in climate change research;\” \” The Social Dynamics of the Internet;\” and \”Transhumanism.\” Hello, get me on the next plane!

The bad news is, unfortunately the institute is part of the Oxford Business School. Not to be a pessimist, but there is no way this side of hell that fuckin\’ OXFORD would accept me to be apart of anything. As Dr Maude so supportively said, \”That\’s great, but do you really think you can handle that?\” Back to the reality that is huge amounts of time at doctor\’s, in the sick bed, and trying to come up with money to pay for treatment. I feel so damned discouraged 90% of the time, and I just don\’t know how to break out of the vicious cycle that is disability. God fucking dammit. It would be so awesome to have a fellowship based on these themes, but instead I try like hell and usually fail to keep up with even a measly community college course. Fuck. I don\’t hate life, I just hate my body. Really, really hate it.
