I seriously don\’t get it. These landlords have already had their buildings and units inspected by the county, and they have all passed, otherwise they wouldn\’t be renting them. All the housing authority does is reinspect them, approve them again, and then pay most of my rent for me directly to the landlord. Like, right now, my rent is $1006 per month, and I pay $48 to the landlord and the housing authority pays the rest. IT\’S GUARANTEED FUCKING RENT, EVERY MONTH. What landlord DOESN\’T want that?
But no. Spit on me. Make me out as a public assistance renter, \’cos we\’re the niggers of the housing market. Fine. I don\’t get it, but do it. What\’s ironic is that in this county, 85% of the housing voucher recipients are white. Skin color affords no (or little) privilege in this instance. I can only imagine how much worse it must be for those whose skin color isn\’t crackerass pale.
I want to live somewhere that I can wear shoes inside and turn the volume up past 1 on my stereo without my downstairs neighbor banging on her ceiling, but somewhere where my car won\’t be stolen and my apartment won\’t come with a high risk of being broken into. Apparently, in my price range this is a lot to ask for around here.
