Since June, the following have happened in my neighborhood:
– the access road flooded over.
– a man was shot and killed in June.
– two false fire alarms have gone off.
– three cars (including mine) have been stolen.
– more than a dozen cars have been broken into*.
– more than a dozen apartments have been broken into*.
– a fire broke out in one of the buildings yesterday afternoon.
– another person was shot and killed this morning.
*I gave up counting incidents after a dozen.
And that\’s just what I know of. For christ\’s fucking sake, this ain\’t the ghetto! But now I\’m starting to wonder… when you count the lack of electricity, and the frequency of the shutting off of the hot and cold water and the air conditioning, oh, and the crack dealer on the playground behind my apartment… Sounds like home to me.
